False Teachers - Beware of the Wolves

Scriptures:

“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves."

Matthew 7:15

Additional Reading: Acts 20:28–30; 2 Timothy 4:3–4; Matthew 18:6; John 10:11–15

Intro:

Wolves do not announce themselves. They blend in.

In Jesus’ day they wore religious garments. In ours, they wear microphones and teacher badges. The danger isn’t always outside the church — sometimes it stands behind the pulpit or at the front of a classroom. And Jesus told us to be prepared for this very moment.

The Wolves Among Us

There is a fierce spiritual reality many believers ignore: wolves do not only hide in pulpits — they hide anywhere they can influence a soul. And in a world where people choose leaders who affirm their desires, wolves thrive.

Inside the Church:

Many pulpits no longer preach repentance.

Conviction has been replaced with comfort.

Holiness traded for affirmation.

And sermons shaped more by society than Scripture.

There are a number of Pastors, Preachers, Bishops. now call evil “good” and good “evil.” The prosperity gospel is celebrated, sin is minimized, and obedience is optional. Worse yet, these preachers insist that Jesus endorses their message.

He does not.

Jesus did not preach self-esteem — He preached self-denial.

He did not say “follow your heart” — He said follow Me.

He did not avoid addressing sin — He died to free us from it.

Any pastor who refuses to preach repentance, truth, obedience, and holiness is not a shepherd of Christ. He is a wolf wearing titles and holding a microphone.

Outside the Church:

But the wolves are not limited to churches — they stand in many public classrooms, universities and even parents, shaping the hearts and minds of the next generation.

Jesus’ warning was severe:

“If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea."

(Matthew 18:6)

What does God say about those who mislead children?

Better a millstone tied around the neck.

Better the sea than the judgment that awaits.

The Real Threat:

The danger is not the unbeliever in the street.

The danger is not the person who openly rejects Christ.

The danger is the one who looks like a leader but teaches poison.

The one who teaches a different gospel.

A different truth.

A different morality.

A different Jesus.

Satan does not only distort from the shadows —

he lectures, he preaches, he teaches.

The Responsibility of the Faithful:

If we are not teaching Scripture, we are teaching deception. There is no neutral ground. Every sermon, lesson, influence, and voice must be measured against the Word of God.

If it contradicts Scripture — it is not truth.

If it dulls repentance — it is deception.

If it excuses sin — it is a lie.

If it denies Christ — it is demonic.

This is the hour for discernment, courage, and clarity.

Wolves are not afraid of passive Christians.

But they tremble at believers who know the Word and refuse to bow.

Reflection Questions:

  • What voices in your life claim to speak truth but contradict Scripture?

  • Where have you allowed comfort or cultural pressure to dull your discernment?

  • How can you actively guard yourself — and your home — from deceptive teaching?

A Prayer to the Flock

Almighty Father of all Creation,

You are our shield, our refuge, and the salvation of all the earth.

No voice silences the storm but Yours.

No truth stands but the truth that comes from Your Word.

Lord, protect Your flock.

Guard Your people from false teachers who twist Scripture

and preach only to satisfy itching ears.

Rescue Your sheep from the wicked who lure them away

from the safety of Your pasture,

from the still waters of Your truth,

from the comfort of Your voice.

Make Your presence known again, Lord—

in the homes, in the schools, in the classroom,

in the places where Your name has been pushed aside

and where reverence has been traded for ridicule.

Let the name of Jesus return to our lips

in honor, not in vain.

We are living in days when many no longer endure sound doctrine.

They gather teachers who preach to their desires,

not their souls.

The enemy has crafted a counterfeit church—

one that entertains instead of convicts,

performs instead of repents,

mocks instead of worships.

They laugh at holiness,

despise Your authority,

and reject the very King who came to save them.

But Father, You still have a remnant.

A people who know Your voice.

A people who will not bow to culture,

who will not exchange truth for lies,

who will follow Your Word even when the world rejects it.

Let Your power rest upon Your people.

Strengthen their faith.

Protect their homes.

Guard their minds from deception.

Let every wolf be exposed,

every lie brought into the light,

every scheme of the enemy torn down

by the authority of Jesus Christ.

For You alone are the Way,

You alone are the Truth,

You alone are the Life.

You are the Light of the world—

and no darkness can overcome You.

It is in Your holy, powerful Name I pray,

Amen.
