Intro:

There is nothing more frustrating than wanting something good… and God saying, “Not yet.”Waiting feels like punishment. Silence feels like abandonment. And our hearts begin to whisper, “If God would just hurry, everything would work out.”But Scripture tells a different story — one where rushing God always brings regret, and waiting on God always brings blessing.

The Faith of God's Timing

Do you ever find yourself waiting for something you want so badly that it starts to consume you?

You check your phone over and over for a reply.

You refresh the page for a new game release.

You rehearse the conversation for a promotion.

You pray for a relationship to finally start.

Your heart races, your mind plans — and without realizing it, you start pushing God to move faster.

But rushing God has never worked for anyone.

Abraham rushed, and Ishmael was born — a moment that created generations of conflict.

Moses rushed, killing an Egyptian before God sent him.

King Saul rushed, offering a sacrifice he had no authority to give.

There are many instances in the Bible of people rushing God's timing.

Every one of them acted out of fear, impatience, or pressure…

and every one of them paid for it.

Rushing God doesn’t accelerate the blessing.

 It only deepens the consequences.

And the truth is painful:

We rush God because we don’t fully trust Him.

We fear He’s taking too long.

We think we know what we need and when we need it.

We imagine disaster if He doesn’t move on our timeline.

But God is never late.

He’s never distracted.

He’s never unsure.

He’s never trying to figure things out.

He already sees the end of the story you’re panicking over.

Waiting isn’t God punishing us —

it’s God protecting us.

Protecting us from doors we aren’t ready to walk through.

From people who would damage us.

From consequences we cannot see.

But when we wait on Him, truly wait,

He brings the right thing at the right time in the right way — every time.

God’s timing is not just perfect.

It is mercy.

It is love disguised as silence.

It is preparation hidden inside of patience.

So take the desire you’re clutching right now…

and release it into His hands.

He is all-knowing.

He is all-powerful.

He is all good.

And He has never failed a single person who waited on Him.

Pray. Surrender. Trust.

God hears — and God answers.

Reflection Questions

  • What desire or outcome are you currently trying to control instead of trusting God with?

  • How have your past “rushed” decisions affected your life, faith, or relationships?

  • What would waiting on God look like in your situation — practically, emotionally, and spiritually?

Closing Prayer

Father,

teach my heart to trust Your timing more than my desires.

Silence every fear that pushes me to run ahead of You,

and anchor my soul in the truth that Your timing is perfect, Your wisdom unshakable, and Your plans good.

Help me surrender what I cannot control and wait with faith, patience, and peace.

Protect me from detours of my own making, and prepare me for the blessing You have already ordained.

I choose to wait on You — fully, humbly, and expectantly.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
