The Bible is Timeless - The Never Changing Word of God

Scripture:

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

-Hebrews 13:8

Additional Reading: John 1:1, Isaiah 40:8, Matthew 24:35

Intro:

We live in a world that constantly asks God to update Himself.

To adjust His standards.

To soften His truth.

Culture moves fast, and with every shift comes the whisper: “Surely this no longer applies.”

But Scripture does not bend to time—and neither does the One who spoke it.

The Word of God is Eternal

Have you ever been told that the Bible no longer applies?

That it belonged to another era—another people—another time?

That we are more advanced now. More enlightened. More aware.

But Scripture does not age the way culture does.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

And because He is unchanging, His Word is unchanging.

The Bible does not bend with generations.

It does not evolve with opinions.

It does not adjust itself to human comfort.

What God called truth then is still truth now.

What He called sin then is still sin now.

What He declared holy has not lost its holiness.

Time does not weaken God’s voice.

Culture may grow louder.

Laws may be rewritten.

Opinions may shift.

But God does not revise Himself.

The tension we feel is not because Scripture is outdated—

it is because truth confronts us.

We can read the Bible and attempt to negotiate with it.

Explain it away. Soften it. Delay obedience.

But the Word of God was never given to be edited.

It was given to be obeyed.

When God speaks, He is not offering suggestions.

He is revealing Himself.

And when His Word stands in contrast to the world,

it is not the Word that needs adjusting.

It is the heart that needs adjusting.

Standing on Scripture may cost approval.

It may cost comfort.

It may cost agreement.

But it will never cost truth.

God has the final say.

Always.

Reflection Questions

  • Where have I allowed culture, comfort, or approval to quietly shape my response to God’s Word?

  • Is there a truth in Scripture I am tempted to soften, delay, or explain away rather than fully obey?

  • What would it look like for me to trust God’s authority without negotiation in my life right now?

Closing Prayer

Father God,

You are eternal, holy, and unchanging.

Your Word does not shift, and neither does Your truth.

Search my heart and show me where I have softened what You have spoken.

Forgive me for the moments I have placed comfort, culture, or fear above obedience.

Give me courage to stand on Your Word when it is unpopular and costly.

Align my heart with what is eternal.

Teach me to trust You fully — without editing, without delay, without compromise.

I choose Your authority over every other voice.

In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
