Scripture: The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
Psalm 23:1-3

Intro:
When Scripture calls the Lord our Shepherd, it isn’t offering comfort poetry — it’s revealing the deepest truth about who God is to His people. He is the One who leads us when we’re directionless, restores us when we’re worn thin, protects us when darkness presses in, and calls us by name when the world pulls us away. Psalm 23 isn’t sentimental; it’s a declaration of God’s nearness — a Shepherd who refuses to abandon His flock, even when the path leads through shadows.
O My Shepherd
O my Shepherd, how great is Your peace;
in green pastures I rest, my worries released.
You lead me by waters where still currents flow,
You restore my soul and cause peace to grow.
Though I walk through the valley where darkness stays near,
I will not tremble—Your presence is here.
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort my way,
and guide my steps when shadows sway.
You prepare me a table in my enemies’ sight;
You anoint me with oil, my heart made right.
My cup overflows by the truth of Your name,
Your mercy and love forever remain.
I will dwell in Your house, where my soul finds its home;
I rest in Your promise—I’m never alone.
My Shepherd, my Savior, forever I’ll proclaim:
for every new day, Jesus, I’ll praise Your name.

When the Shepherd Calls Your Name
What does it truly mean for the Lord to be your Shepherd?
For some, it means obedience. For others, listening for His voice. Many picture a gentle man in robes, staff in hand, wandering hills in search of a lost lamb. But no matter what image comes to mind, one truth stands unshaken: Jesus alone is the Good Shepherd who leads His people into life.
He is the One who gives rest when the soul is exhausted.
He is the One who pours living water into places that have been dry for years.
He is the One who walks beside us through the darkest valleys with a light that never flickers.
He is the One who calls us His own — not because we are strong, but because He is faithful.
Before I was saved, I was a sheep without direction. Wandering wilderness paths I didn’t recognize, following every noise, but not the sound of His voice. Life felt empty, pointless — like walking in circles in the dark. But the moment I heard the Shepherd calling, everything changed. Not because I had something to offer, but because He refused to leave me lost.
Many of us know what it feels like to drift.
The world pulls. Culture whispers. Temptation sparkles.
And little by little, we begin wandering further from the One who loves us most. The further we go, the emptier we become. Without Christ, there’s no rest, no peace, no purpose — just motion without meaning.
But the moment we turn back to Him, something remarkable happens:
The Shepherd doesn’t scold. He doesn’t lecture. He doesn’t hold us at a distance.
He receives us. He restores us. He rejoices over us.
And when we walk behind Him again — step by step, voice by voice, day by day — we find the things the world could never give us:
Real peace.
Real joy.
Real direction.
And above all, real love.
Because His guidance isn’t merely instruction — it’s affection.
His leadership isn’t harsh — it’s protective.
His voice doesn’t crush — it revives.
He is the Shepherd who laid down His life for His sheep.
He is the Shepherd who calls you by name.
And when you follow Him, you discover what your soul has always longed for:
A love that never leaves, a peace that never fails, and a Shepherd who never lets go.
Reflection Questions:
Where in your life have you been trying to shepherd yourself instead of letting Christ lead you?
What “valley of shadow” are you walking through right now — and how is the Lord inviting you to trust His presence in it?
When was the last time you let Him restore your soul instead of running on empty?
Closing Prayer: Lord Jesus,
my Good Shepherd, draw me close to Your side.
Lead my restless heart into Your peace.
Restore what is weary within me.
Teach me to walk in Your paths and trust Your presence in every valley.
Help me hear Your voice above every other sound in this world.
I surrender again to Your loving guidance — You are my Shepherd, and I lack nothing.
In the name of Jesus. Amen
